We took part in an appeal hearing, arguing that planning permission should be granted for 39 houses. We were appointed following the refusal of planning permission.

To the north of the site is the A17, a busy road on which passing traffic generated a high level of noise. There was a need to incorporate noise mitigation in the form of a solid barrier, 3.9m high. Because the site is long and thin, this fence would need to be around 8m from the rear of some of the houses.

The site.

We were successful in arguing that the fence would not have an unacceptable impact on the amenity of the residents within the new houses. We demonstrated that the acoustic barrier could be built in several ways. This could include not only a conventional close-boarded fence, but also a living wall or a transparent glass barrier. We used new graphics, produced for the appeal, to illustrate the effect of these barriers. We also successfully argued that there would be substantial benefits which justified granting planning permission.
