Case Studies, Planning Applications
Listed Buildings, Residential Development
The site lies in the centre of the historic town of King’s Lynn. It is within a conservation area, and surrounded by a number of listed buildings; it is accessed via an archway within a Grade II* listed building. The land was reclaimed from the River Great Ouse up to 500 years ago, and originally formed a warehouse area to the rear of a grand house on King Street. More recently it was an open area, falling between a number of tight-knit buildings.
Working with Studio 11 Architecture we secured planning permission for a new house which was designed to fit specifically on this site, and within the various constraints which surround it. It has a complementary relationship with the surrounding listed buildings, and also makes excellent use of the river frontage. The design is contemporary, but with clear references to the form of the older buildings which surround the site. Whilst the planning drawings were exciting, we believe that the finished building is of a truly exceptional quality.
